Shabbat & Holidays

Songleading with Guitar

Every Friday that school is in session, there is Shabbat dinner and Shabbat services at Hillel.  Services mix traditional and liberal elements, depending on which student is leading that week.  They are completely student led and organized.

For the High Holidays, Jewish students are welcomed by the community synagogues to participate in those services at no cost.  The Hillel staff coordinate carpools to the Conservative synagogue, and organize walking groups to the Reform and Orthodox synagogues.  For Yom Kippur, there is a break fast celebration at Hillel.

A highlight of the semester for most students is the Passover seder held in the spring at Hillel and run by Hillel staff and student leaders.  The Jewish Studies Program also provides community Passover lunches and dinners throughout the week to celebrate together.
